Enjoy this 50-second video invitation to our 2015 Champagne Gala Brunch by Catherine Gruye Alexander, lifelong West Seattleite and daughter of Bob Gruye, the first long-term chef at the Alki Homestead in the 1950s. Catherine’s brother, Rob, of Port Townsend, also will speak. The event celebrates the in-progress restoration of the Homestead.

And in this 45-second video, hear Catherine describe a unique opportunity available at the 2015 Champagne Gala Brunch, the chance to purchase an original piece of the Alki Homestead. Several of these notched log sections, a bi-product of the restoration process, will be up for purchase at the event’s live auction. They are contributed by Homestead owner Dennis Schilling.

2015 08-26 Gala Save the Date frontWe are “Coming Home to the Homestead” at our 2015 Champagne Gala Brunch (presented by The Kenney), and Marty Riemer is helping us celebrate!

The event — the social and philanthropic event of the year, benefiting our historical society — is 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 7, 2015, at Salty’s on Alki, 1936 Harbor Ave. S.W.

The “Coming Home to the Homestead” theme takes off from the launch of restoration for the beloved Alki Homestead. The city landmark, first known as Fir Lodge, also is our “mother ship,” because our “Birthplace of Seattle” Log House Museum served as its carriage house when it was built in 1904.

West Seattleite Marty Riemer, arguably the best-known Seattle broadcaster for the past three decades (KZOK, KJR, KXRX, The Mountain and presently the weekday morning host at 95.7 FM The Jet) will host a lively podcast at the event called “Wait, Wait, West Seattle … Don’t Tell Me!”

He will head a panel of West Seattle-based luminaries and quiz them on how much they know about the Alki Homestead and the rest of the Duwamish peninsula.2015 Gala Gruyes

Also featured will be a presentation by Catherine Gruye Alexander and Rob Gruye, daughter and son of 1950s Alki Homestead chef and manager Bob Gruye.

Tickets for the Champagne Gala Brunch are $85 if purchased by the early-bird deadline of Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2015, and $100 thereafter. To purchase tickets, click here!
