Introducing Our New Executive Director

On Tuesday, February 18, Michael King joined the staff at the Southwest Seattle Historical Society as its new Executive Director. Michael comes to the Historical Society from the Flying Heritage & Combat Armor Museum in Everett, where he managed the museum’s education and volunteer programs. Prior to FHCAM, Michael worked at the Nordic Museum in Seattle, serving in both the programs and development departments, during which time he built on the experience he gained at several cultural and heritage organizations including the Berkshire Cultural Resource Center, Morristown National Historical Park, and the Boston Symphony Orchestra.

Michael earned a Ph.D. in History and Culture from Drew University and he holds Master’s and Bachelor’s degrees in history from Lehigh University.

Originally from Tacoma, Michael is a dedicated advocate of local history and is eager to serve new and established audiences across the Duwamish Peninsula and beyond while leading the Historical Society’s programmatic, advocacy, and preservation efforts.

Of the opportunity to join the Historical Society as its Executive Director, Michael said, “I have a deep appreciation for the work that has been done by the Southwest Seattle Historical Society to preserve and promote the rich history of the Duwamish Peninsula. It is clear that the Board of Trustees, staff, volunteers, members, and many supporters have created a strong foundation for the Historical Society’s next chapter. I am certain that the months and years ahead will be filled with many new initiatives and ambitious challenges as the Historical Society works to strengthen its role as an inclusive and indispensable resource to the entire community. I am profoundly grateful for the opportunity to lead the dedicated team that will accomplish the Historical Society’s goals and I look forward to contributing to the organization’s continued success.”

Stop by the Log House Museum to connect with Michael. He would be delighted to meet you!
