In Memoriam: Diane Tice

Sisters Joan Mraz and Diane Tice at the 2013 SWSHS Gala

In honor and memory of Diane Bailey Tice

The world, and our historical circle have lost a champion. Long time Southwest Seattle Historical Society member and supporter Diane Bailey Tice passed away January 5, 2020. Diane was a caring, giving, and generous friend, mentor, and patron. She, her twin sister Joan Mraz, and husband Lou grew up in West Seattle, graduating from West Seattle High School in 1954.

Diane and Lou, co-founders of The Pacific Institute, supported the Historical Society not only with generous monetary donations, but shared space at their beautiful Pacific Institute building for annual SWSHS Board retreats, phone banks, and for numerous events. They also supported the printing of our Footprints publication.  Diane continued to provide these gifts long after the passing of Lou and the Society is forever grateful.

Diane’s beautiful smile, her friendship and advisory consultation, her visible and vocal support of our organization shown in her presence and participation at our events is something we will forever miss.

Diane was preceded in death by her husband Lou, and by her twin sister Joan Mraz who was a founding member of the Southwest Seattle Historical Society in 1984. We are grateful for the many years we shared with Diane and we extend our heartfelt condolences to her family.

Thank you,
Marcy Johnsen, Former President of SWSHS
