VIDEO: Alki Suffragist Katherine Smith

If you are a woman voting in Washington, you have a woman from Alki to thank. Katherine Smith was a suffragist who tirelessly fought for women’s right to vote both in Washington state and nationally. She was very well known in Seattle as one of the leaders of the movement, led one of the largest suffrage clubs in the state, and wrote a weekly column in the Seattle Star. Her legacy, however, has been somewhat forgotten.
