The Southwest Seattle Historical Society is hiring!

The Southwest Seattle Historical Society is currently accepting applications for the position of Programs and Interpretation Coordinator.

The Programs and Interpretation Coordinator is responsible for developing and implementing the Southwest Seattle Historical Society’s programmatic offerings, with an emphasis on digital experiences and social media. This position also provides oversight of the interpretive experience at the Log House Museum, including supporting visitor services operations and managing the tour program. This is a part-time position (starting at 20 hours per week) with additional hours to be added when the Log House Museum reopens to the public. 

Essential Job Functions

  • Creatively manage the Historical Society’s social media presence to increase our visibility and deepen community engagement with our offerings. 
  • Develop engaging digital content and experiences that showcase the history of the Duwamish Peninsula and the Historical Society’s collection of artifacts. 
  • Develop and manage in-person educational programming for youth and adult audiences as assigned when the Museum reopens to the public. 
  • Oversee visitors’ interpretive experiences at the Museum, which includes directly supporting visitor services and coordinating the Historical Society’s tour program.  

Other Skills/Abilities

  • Excellent communication skills, including writing and public speaking.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with a variety of stakeholders (staff, volunteers, visitors, etc.).
  • Well-organized, detail-oriented, and able to work on multiple, complex projects at the same time.
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team setting.
  • Knowledge of the history of the Duwamish Peninsula is desirable and willingness to learn is essential. 
  • Professional public presence and strong customer service orientation.

Requirements

  • BA required and 2+ years relevant experience in museum or education environment. 
  • Weekend and evening work.  
  • Experience with WordPress and social media platforms. 
  • Experience working with wide-ranging audiences. 
  • Proficient in Zoom and Microsoft Office including Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint.
  • Ability to be seated/standing for extended periods.

Schedule

Flexible schedule until the Log House Museum is reopened to the public. When the Log House Museum is reopened to the public the regular schedule for this position is Thursday through Sunday afternoons with some evening work required. 

Compensation

$17 to $19 per hour (depending on experience) with federal holidays and additional paid vacation/sick leave.
