The future came to Alki today, and we are deeply grateful!
Residents in the one-block radius of our Log House Museum received visits from four South Seattle College student volunteers on Sunday, May 11, 2014.
The four — Sarah Balmer, Brandon Beahm, Ruthie Salverson and Adrienne Westmiller — were alerting the neighborhood about the June 6, 2014, unveiling in front of our museum of the restored Admiral totem pole that stood at Belvedere View Point Park from 1966 to 2006. In addition to knocking on doors and talking with residents, the four distributed a handout explaining that a portion of 61st Avenue Southwest near our museum will be closed to auto traffic from 9 a.m. to noon on the day of the event.
The our are members of the college’s chapter of Hospitality, Financial and Technology Professions (HFTP), and they signed up to be volunteers for the Southwest Seattle Historical Society at the college’s Volunteer Fair, held April 17, 2014.
The students said they enjoyed interacting with our neighbors, who are enthusiastic about our mission, and many of whom plan to attend the unveiling ceremony.
On June 6, students from the chapter will return to assist with volunteer tasks before, during and after the ceremony. They also plan to help out at other events this spring. We greatly appreciate their help!
